Audi Q5 2018
SUV, SUVs and only SUVs. The year 2017 can be called the year of SUVs. From Maruti’s Vitara Breeza to Jeep’s Compass, we have seen a lot of SUVs in this year (2017) in all shapes and sizes available at various prices. Today we’ve yet another SUV from a premium brand AUDI. It’s the all-new Audi Q5.
Audi will begin the new year in India with their first dispatch, the new-gen Q5 on January 18, 2018. The compact premium SUV made its premiere on the Paris Motor Show last year. From the designing point of view, the new Audi Q5 gets an outline much like the lead Q7 SUV. The important thing about the new-gen Audi Q5 is its new MLB platform, due to which the SUV is almost 100 kg lighter.
The impact of the Audi Q7 on the new Q5 can be seen with the single-outline front grille. The Q5 has Matrix LED headlights which are mechanical wonders. At the back, the taillights get a makeover too with successive LED components. The boot gets an electronically controlled gate as standard and has 550 liters of storage expandable to 1,550 liters with the back seat folded.
The interior changes are marvelous. The MMI controlled infotainment is tuned for smooth performance. It is now more user-friendly and can be connected to both Android Auto and apple car play. Thus new Q5 is now completely changed in terms of interiors. In India, the Q5 will be offered in two different options, one is 2I diesel and another is a 2l TFSI turbo-petrol engine. This all-new SUV has come at a time when there’s a lot of fresh competition in the market. Volvo recently launched its XC60 and soon we will see a lot of other SUVs as well.

Audi Q5 2018 Overview
Starting from the front and you have got a new chrome finished grille which reminds more of the current Q7 then of the previous Q5. This grille gives the Q5 an aggressive countenance. Talking about the cosmetic changes and you have got signature Daytime Running Led lamps (DRLs) and a chrome line going all around the window. It has got the same standards from the previous Q5. Its tail lamps are up to some extent new having a nice techy pattern.
At the rear, you have a new tray with chrome like exhaust tips. You also have an integrated spoiler mounted on the top. So in all, the new Q5’s design is not completely new but it certainly got a sharp and modern look.

Audi Q5 2018 Interiors & Features.
The Cabin of the new Q5 feels familiar. It has a dual tone dashboard and same designing theme carried over from the As and Qs. You have got a virtual cockpit, high-quality switch gears which are really touch sensitive. The Q5s virtual cockpit is fully digital and offers you a 12.3-inch instrument cluster. This instrument cluster allows the driver to customize information such as navigation and audio, and also offers Google Earth view and Google Street view options on the screen.
Audi Q5 offers you a screen but to use that screen you have to use the Audi’s MMI controller. There’s a lot of storage space in the cabin and a Panoramic sunroof like any luxury car offers and this Q5 got a big one.
So overall the cabin is well equipped and feels premium and plush.
The front seats are fully electric and are comfortable too. You’ll get a memory function but only for the driver seat. There’s a wireless phone charging support and surround cameras to help you in tight parking spots. Audi Q5 has hands-free parking and clamshell power tailgate feature too. The other features of Audi Q5 are Satellite navigation, adaptive dampers, and 3 zone auto climate control.
This Q5 is generally more spacious and have more room but it is much more 4 seater because it is a mid-sized SUV. Q5 may not feel comfortable to the 5th passenger because of a large hump in the floor and a stiff seat cushion, they won’t be very comfortable. At the middle of the rear seat, you have an adjustable armrest. And if you want to be more comfortable then you can also decline your rear seat. Audi Q5 offers you a boot of 550 litres which matches the size offered by other competitors as well.
Audi Q5 2018 Engine & Features.
This Q5 is more powerful. Due to almost 100 kgs lighter this Q5 is surprisingly Quick too.This Q5 is powered by company’s legendary Quattro technology i.e., offers you all-wheel drive and is standard across all variants. It is also powered by Audi’s TFSI engine that puts out 252 hp and a torque of approx. 370 nm. Q5 has an engine of 1968 cc with 4 cycles turbo diesel. Q5 also offers you 7-speed Dual-Clutch automatic. The engine is refined and is really relaxed. Audi claims from 0 to 60 in just 5.9 sec for this 1.9-ton car. The steering wheel is also comfortable and doesn’t feel sharp to you.

Audi Q5 2018 Safety
Audi Q5 has so many safety features. Safety features include a rearview camera, Audi Pre sense basic and Audi pre sense city. Audi pre sense basic detects the crash and prepares the broken system, tightens the seat belt and closes all windows and the panoramic sunroof. Other safety features include front and rear park assist, red cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, 360° camera and Vehicle exit assist.
VERDICT
So this the new Q5 it has got a new, sharp and modern design. A fully redesigned engine and an updated Infotainment system. Its design is not revolutionary but adds modern and premium feel to it. The Q5 provides you with a comfortable drive and you can take twists and turns with confidence. Interiors are plush and Safety features are also good. But we can’t say it a 5-seater.
Audi Q5 2018 Price & Launch.
The all-new second-gen Audi Q5 is going to be formally launched in our market on January 18, 2018. Slotting in between the Q3 and Q7, the new Q5 is predicted to be priced from Rs 48 Lakhs to Rs 58 Lakhs (estimated, ex-showroom).
